WTC 2023-25: A Look at the Points Table with India’s Dominance

The fourth Test in Ranchi served as a turning point in the India-England series, not only securing a series win for the hosts but also exposing weaknesses in England’s much-hyped ‘Bazball’ approach.

India, who bounced back from a one-down situation after the Hyderabad Test to secure an undisputable 3-1 lead in the series now has grabbed the second position in the World Test Championship (WTC) Points Table. This comeback victory, achieved without key players such as Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, and KL Rahul, highlights the team’s depth and ability to perform under pressure.

The win in Ranchi propelled India’s point percentage in the ICC WTC 2023-25 from 59.52 to an impressive 64.58. Positioned at second, India trails New Zealand, who maintain their lead with a 75.00-win percentage after playing four matches. The Points Table also highlights Australia and Bangladesh in the third and fourth positions, with England languishing at eighth, just above Sri Lanka.

The Ranchi Test itself was a nail-biting situation, with India chasing down a modest 192-run target after some initial shakeup. England’s performance in this series raises questions about the effectiveness of their aggressive batting approach. Their dependence on attacking play seems to be backfiring, leading to batting collapses.

The series against England not only emphasized India’s dominance in the WTC but also served as a platform for discovering new talents such as Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, and Akash Deep. With the WTC Final 2025 in sight, India aims to carry forward their momentum with upcoming challenges against Bangladesh and New Zealand at home and the Border– Gavaskar series in Australia.

India’s victory has only strengthened their team and their position in the WTC 2023-25 and are on their way to securing a spot in the WTC Final 2025. This series win also serves as a warning to other teams, as India continues to dominate the Test arena with their calm and adaptable approach.
