Prominent Players Who Missed Out on BCCI’s Current Contract

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the list of players with annual contracts for the 2023-24 season. While some young players like Yashaswi Jaiswal received their first contracts, two big names were missing: Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. This year, 30 players were awarded contracts, compared to 26 last year. Several players saw changes in their contract grade. Shubman Gill, Mohammad Siraj, and KL Rahul moved up to the higher-paying Grade A, while Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel went down to Grade B.

Omitted Players:

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan: These young talents might need to regain form in domestic cricket to earn their contracts back.

Cheteshwar Pujara: The experienced batsman’s exclusion might be due to the team’s focus on younger alternatives for the Test format.

Umesh Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal: Their recent lack of playing time could be the reason for their exclusion, but they still have the potential to make a comeback with strong performances.

It’s important to note that not everyone left out will be permanently excluded. Some, like young talents, may need to prove themselves in domestic cricket to earn a contract again. However, others may face an uphill battle due to increasing competition within the team.

However, the exclusion of certain players raised eyebrows among fans. While some, like Shikhar Dhawan and Umesh Yadav, haven’t played much recently, others like Iyer and Kishan are still young and have the potential to make a comeback. In last year’s retainer, Iyer was in Grade B while Kishan was part of Grade C.
