The TATA IPL one of the most celebrated cricket tournaments globally, is all set to rejoice fans once again in its 17th edition. The IPL 2024 is to be started on March 22, 2024, to May 29, 2024. With a total of 10 teams competing, this season promises fierce battles, breathtaking performances, and nail-biting finishes.

The IPL 2024 Auction of these 10 teams, was held on 19th December 2023 where IPL franchises were buy or releasing the players for these teams. A total 74 matches will be played by the team and will follow the previous year’s format of IPL.

Mitchell Starc becoming the most expensive player in IPL history, with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) acquiring the Australian pacer’s services for a whopping bid of INR 24.75 crores.

The IPL 2024 auction saw two players breach the 20 crore mark for the first time in the cash-rich T20 cricket league. Before Starc went for the record sum, his Aussie team-mate Pat Cummins was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for 20.50 crore.

All-rounder Sam Curran was previously the most expensive player in IPL, with Punjab Kings (PBKS) shelling out INR 18.50 crore for the Englishman at last year’s auction.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Established in 2008, CSK is one of the most successful IPL franchises, having won the championship a record-tying five times. Led by the legendary MS Dhoni, they are known for their consistent performance and passionate fan base. Talking about the defending champions CSK, they once again have a solid playing 11 with all their bases covered. The CSK team will be bolstered with the batting line-up of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra, and Devon Conway.

The surprise package of the 2022 season, even before the tournament began, the Gujarat Titans have already taken a hit with their leader Hardik Pandya traded to Mumbai Indians, and their leading pacer Mohammed Shami being ruled out of IPL 2024. With these two not there, a lot will depend on Captain Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, and David Miller. Aside from these three, the performance of Williamson, Sudharsan and bowlers will be crucial.

Rajasthan Royals

The 2008 IPL champions, RR are known for unearthing young talent and playing an attractive brand of cricket.  Rajasthan Royals will go with their regular top order with a focus on Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson. Their lower order and bowling will be. A lot will depend on Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Lucknow Super Giants

A new addition to the IPL in 2022, LSG made a strong debut, reaching the playoffs in their first season. Led by KL Rahul, they are a team to watch out for in the upcoming season. The team will see a brilliant game by Quinton de Kock. The middle order, which makes them one of the strongest batting units consists of the likes of Stoini and Pooran also there. With Mark Wood not available, the bowling depends on Shamar Joseph, and Shivam Mavi.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Despite reaching the IPL final three times, RCB is yet to win the championship. However, the team, led by Faf du Plessis, always features a star-studded line-up and is known for its entertaining brand of cricket. The RCB team is batting-dominant, and their top 6 is proof of that. The team would continue to see Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar as the openers. Whereas the lineup will be by Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, and Dinesh Karthik. The bowling is RCB’s pain point, and a lot of work will be needed from Mohammed Siraj and other Indian bowlers.

The Delhi Capitals will be glad with the return of Rishabh Pant. However, Pant will purely play as a batter this IPL. DC have a strong top 5 with a focus on David Warner, Rishabh Pant, and Mitchell Marsh. The bowling is quite potent for DC with the likes of Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Khaleel Ahmed.

Punjab Kings

Yet to win an IPL title, PBKS is known for its flamboyant style of play and for giving opportunities to young players.  Punjab Kings have a strong opening combination in the form of Shikhar Dhawan.. However, the rest of the batting lineup is inexperienced with the likes of Prabsimran Singh, Atharva Taide, and Jitesh Sharma. While the lower order is strong for PBKS, their bowling is their strength with Kagiso Rabada, Sam Curran, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, and Rahul Chahar in the mix.

Now this year too, Gautam Gambhir is making a comeback to KKR, but as a mentor. The Kolkata Knight Riders spent a fortune to acquire the services of Mitchell Starc. While his addition makes their bowling stronger, the batting looks a mixed bag, and a lot will depend on the form of Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, and Andre Russell. The bowling is good with the likes of Pat Cummins and experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

One of the favorite teams on paper, the Mumbai Indians have a strong batting lineup with a focus on Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Dewald Brevis. The bowling consists of players like Jason Behrendorff and Jasprit Bumrah.
