Hitting it Big: Top Six Smashers in the World Test Championship

The Day 1 of the 5th Test match between India and England saw Rohit Sharma smash his way into the record books. He became the first Indian batsman to hit a whopping 50 sixes in the World Test Championship (WTC)! This remarkable feat came when he hit a six off Mark Wood in the fourth over of India’s innings. As of now, Sharma has a total of 52 sixes in his WTC career, scoring 2551 runs in 54 innings with a strike rate of 58.4.

Rohit’s six-hitting spree doesn’t stop there!

Not only is Rohit a top contender in the WTC, but he’s also close to another record. He needs just four more sixes to become the first player ever to hit 600 sixes in international cricket! He’s way ahead of the competition, with West Indies Chris Gayle far behind at 553 sixes, who has already retired. During this match, Rohit also achieved another impressive feat. He became the 10th Indian captain to score 1000 runs in Test cricket joining the elite list of Kohli and Dhoni!

While Rohit’s batting achievements were a highlight, the Indian bowlers also deserve a shoutout. They bundled out England for just 218 runs, thanks to Kuldeep Yadav’s five wickets and Ashwin’s four. Notably, all of the 10 England wickets fell to spinners. India started their batting innings well, with youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring a quick 57 runs. With this, Jaiswal surpassed Virat Kohli’s record of 655 runs to become the highest run-scorer for India with a total of 712 runs against England in a Test series.

Who are the biggest six-hitters in the WTC?

Ben Stokes (England): The current king of the sixes! Stokes leads the pack with a massive 78 sixes.

Rohit Sharma (India): Rohit Sharma with 52 sixes, making him the first Indian to reach the 50-sixes mark.

Rishabh Pant (India): Despite missing over a year with injury, Pant still sits at a mighty 38 sixes!

Yashasvi Jaiswal (India): This young player is making a name for himself with 29 sixes, with most coming in a single series!

Jonny Bairstow (England): Rounding out the top 5 is Bairstow with 29 sixes.
