WPL 2024: Full List of Award Winners

The dream has finally come true for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans! After years of waiting, they’ve clinched their first-ever title, in the women’s league, but a win is a win, leaving their mark on the WPL 2024 season! The fans will be talking about this night at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for a long time, especially Smriti Mandhana’s leadership, Ellyse Perry’s brilliant gameplay, and the team’s incredible performance.

RCB Wins the Big One!

The Bangalore team secured the WPL trophy with a thrilling 8-wicket victory over Meg Lanning’s’ Delhi Capitals. Chasing a modest target of 114, Ellyse Perry’s cool head with 35 runs unbeaten and Sophie Molineux’s bowling brilliance (3 wickets for 20 runs) paved the way for victory. Molineux was rightly named Player of the Match for her game-changing spell, showcasing her ability to take wickets at crucial moments.

Award Winners Shine Bright

The night wasn’t just about RCB’s win; it was also a celebration of individual performances throughout the season. Here’s a quick rundown of the award winners:

Winners’ Trophy:  RCB! They finally grabbed their first title, taking home a whopping INR 6 crore prize money. This win will surely boost their confidence and attract even more talented players to the team in the upcoming seasons.

Runners-up Trophy: Delhi Capitals, led by Meg Lanning, came close but fell short fort the second time a row, receiving INR 3 crore for their efforts. The disappointment will be high, but they’ll use this experience to come back stronger next year.

Orange Cap

Ellyse Perry, the “Aussie GOAT,” smashed the most runs (347) in a single WPL season, earning INR 5 lakh. Perry’s consistent batting throughout the tournament was a key factor in RCB’s success.

Purple Cap

Rising star Shreyanka Patil bagged the most wickets (13) from eight matches in the tournament, including a record-breaking 4-wicket haul in the final. She also takes home INR 5 lakh. Patil even won the Emerging Player of the Tournament award for her phenomenal season, earning another INR 5 lakh. Despite having picked a hairline fracture recently, Shreyanka produced the best-ever figures in a WPL final. Her impressive performance has opened doors for her to potentially represent India in the future.

WPL 2024 Player of the Tournament

This one goes to Deepti Sharma from UP Warriorz! Deepti’s all-around performance of making 295 runs in eight matches at an average of 98.33 including three half-centuries and 10 wickets that she picked up in eight games earned her the top honor. Deepti’s consistency throughout the season makes her a truly valuable player.

WPL 2024 final Player of the Match

Sophie Molineux has earned the title of Player of the Match for her game-changing figures of 3/20 in the final. Molineux’s 8th over changed the game on its head as DC, who were cruising at 64/0 after 7 overs, were brought down to 64/3 in 7.4 overs and then ultimately to 113/10. She picked the wickets of Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey.

Best Catch of the Season

Mumbai Indians’ Sajana Sajeevan takes the cake for the most amazing catch! Her mind-blowing diving effort to dismiss UP Warriorz’ Sophie Ecclestone in match number 14 between MI and UP was truly awe-inspiring. Sajana’s exceptional fielding skill highlights the importance of a well-rounded team effort.

WPL 2024 Super Striker of the Season

RCB’s Georgia Wareham gets this award for her explosive batting, making 111 runs at a strike rate of 163.23. Wareham’s ability to score quickly during crucial moments provided RCB with a much-needed edge.

WPL 2024 most sixes

Delhi Capitals’ Shafali Verma is the queen of sixes, hitting 20 sixes in the season. Shafali’s fearlessness and power-hitting make her an exciting young talent to watch out for.

 Highest score in WPL 2024
