Yorker Kings in IPL

The IPL is back! While big hits dominate the game, some bowlers have a special skill – Yorkers. These perfectly aimed balls land right on the stumps, making them very hard to score off for the batters. Here are a few yorker experts who have troubled batsmen for years.

Lasith Malinga

Malinga is a legend when it comes to Yorkers. Called the ‘King of Yorkers’, he has helped Mumbai Indians win many matches with his pinpoint accuracy. With 170 wickets to his name, Malinga is at sixth position among the highest wicket-takers and he holds the record for most Yorker wickets (34) in the IPL!  His bowling is economical too, giving away very few runs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad, is another yorker master. Even though he hasn’t been in the Indian team recently, he uses his IPL experience to shine. He has won many matches for Sunrisers by bowling yorkers in the crucial death overs, the last few overs of the innings. With 12 wickets, Bhuvneshwar Kumar comes second is this list. Bhuvi has a total of 170 wickets in his name in this league and his economy rate is 7.39.

Dwayne Bravo

Dwayne Bravo is a special case. This versatile player is known for both batting and bowling, and he’s quite skilled with the yorker too! Having played for Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, Bravo has also taken a total of 12 wickets with the ball of yorker length. Hardly any bowler will have better variations than Bravo in the death overs. He has made CSK win many matches in the death overs. Bravo is the leading wicket taker in the Indian Premier League, with 183 wickets.

These bowlers prove that precise bowling can be just as effective as big hitting in the high-pressure world of the IPL.
