‘Finisher’ Dinesh Karthik Back in IPL 2024

Remember how everyone counted Dinesh Karthik out after a rough IPL 2023? Well, those folks are probably scratching their heads right now! DK, the hard-hitting batsman or the ‘finisher’ for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), is on a spree to prove them all wrong.

After his incredible performance against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday, in Match 6 of the IPL 2024 in Bengaluru, Karthik is now the batsman with the highest strike rate in the death overs (17-20 overs) and the second-highest run-getter in the death overs of the IPL since 2022.

This 38-year-old came out swinging against PBKS, scoring an unbeaten 28 runs off just 10 balls at a strike rate of 280! That’s some serious power hitting including three boundaries and two sixes! This knock took his total runs in the death overs to a whopping 372 at a strike rate of 203.27, putting him right behind Rajasthan Royals’ Shimron Hetmyer, who has scored 383 runs at a strike rate of 197.42.

Even though Virat Kohli played brilliantly earlier, scoring 77 runs in 49 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes, RCB still needed 23 runs in the last two overs to win the match. That’s when Dinesh Karthik stepped up and stole the show! The way he handled Arshdeep Singh, a top death bowler, was truly impressive.

After Virat Kohli’s wicket, RCB looked in trouble but the unbeaten 48-run partnership between Karthik and the impact player Mahipal Lomror, from 18 balls helped the home side get over the line with four balls to spare, turning the game upside down. Reports say this might be his last IPL season, so he’s clearly making it count.

Next up for RCB is a clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 29th at the same stadium. Get ready for another exciting match, cricket fans!
