Jasprit Bumrah continued his fiery form in the IPL 2024, putting on a bowling masterclass for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium.
Winning the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya chose to field first, putting RCB under early pressure. Virat Kohli (3), Will Jacks (8), and Glenn Maxwell (0) fell cheaply, leaving RCB in a precarious position.
However, Faf du Plessis (61) and Rajat Patidar (50) stitched together a crucial 82-run partnership, reviving RCB’s innings. Dinesh Karthik (53*) then provided a late flourish with a quickfire knock, helping RCB set a competitive total of 196/8.
But the night belonged to Jasprit Bumrah. Bowling with exceptional pace and accuracy, Bumrah ripped through the RCB batting order, taking a staggering 5 wickets for just 21 runs! He even came close to a hat-trick twice, showcasing his dominance.
This outstanding performance propelled Bumrah to the top of the Purple Cap standings for most wickets in the tournament, currently tied with Yuzvendra Chahal at 10 wickets.
But Bumrah’s achievement goes beyond just this match. With his fifer, he became only the third Indian bowler, and the fourth overall, to have taken two five-wicket hauls in IPL history. The other bowlers to achieve this feat are James Faulkner, Jaydev Unadkat, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Here is the list of bowlers with two five-wicket hauls in IPL:
James Faulkner (RR) vs SRH, IPL 2013, SRH, IPL 2013
