Babar Azam Blasts Past Kohli to Lead the T20I Fifty Club

Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, has cemented his place in T20 history by setting a new record for the most fifty-plus scores in the format.  This incredible feat came during the 3rd and deciding T20I against Ireland, where Azam’s brilliant knock of 75 runs not only helped Pakistan win the series but also surpassed Indian batting legend Virat Kohli‘s record.

Unlike the longer formats of cricket, T20 cricket is all about quick scoring and taking calculated risks. Players who can stay on the pitch for a long time and consistently score big runs are invaluable assets.

In the final match against Ireland, Azam led from the front with a blistering knock. His 75 runs came off just 42 balls, showcasing his ability to switch gears and score boundaries at will. This knock included five towering sixes and six elegant fours, leaving the Irish bowlers with no answers.

This achievement goes beyond just personal glory. Azam, along with his opening partner Mohammad Rizwan, also reached another milestone in this match. Their partnership became the first in T20I history to cross the 3,000-run mark and the first to achieve 10 century stands together.

While risky batting can be entertaining, it doesn’t always translate to big scores. Azam’s innings against Ireland perfectly exemplifies the balance needed for impactful knocks in T20s. His calculated aggression, combined with his ability to stay at the crease, proved to be the backbone of Pakistan’s chase.

With this record-breaking performance, Azam has now reached 39 fifty-plus scores (including centuries) in T20Is, surpassing Kohli’s impressive tally of 38. This historic feat is a testament to Azam’s consistency and exceptional skills as a batsman.

Pakistan will now face a new challenge in the form of a five-match T20I series against England. Azam, aware of the upcoming hurdles, acknowledges the need for his team to perform at their best.
