Adam Zampa Makes History, becomes 1stAustralian bowler to claim 100 T20I wickets

Adam Zampa has etched his name in Australian cricket history by becoming the first Australian bowler to claim 100 wickets in T20 Internationals. Zampa reached this milestone during Australia’s match against Namibia in the ongoing T20 World Cup at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

The 32-year-old leg-spinner put on a stellar performance, taking four wickets in the first innings. He dismissed Zane Green, David Wiese, Ruben Trumpelmann, and Bernard Scholtz, showcasing his exceptional bowling skills. This achievement highlights Zampa’s significant contribution to Australia’s T20 success.

Zampa’s journey to 100 T20I wickets has been remarkable. He has played 83 matches and bowled in 82 innings, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 7.20. His consistency and ability to take crucial wickets have made him a key player for Australia in the shortest format of the game.

In the list of leading Australian wicket-takers in T20Is, pace bowler Mitchell Starc follows Zampa. Starc has taken 76 wickets in 62 matches, with an economy rate of 7.72. This shows the dominance of Zampa in T20 cricket and his crucial role in the Australian bowling lineup.

Recapping the first innings of the match against Namibia, Australia won the toss and elected to field. Namibia struggled to build a solid foundation, with openers Michael van Lingen and Nikolaas Davin scoring just 10 and 2 runs, respectively. The Namibian team could only manage a 14-run opening partnership.

Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus was the standout batter for his team, scoring 36 runs off 43 balls, including four fours and one six. Despite his efforts, Namibia was bowled out for 72 runs in the first innings. Erasmus’s performance was the lone bright spot in an otherwise lackluster batting display.

Zampa led the Australian bowling attack with his four-wicket haul, conceding only 12 runs in his four-over spell at an economy rate of 3.00. He was well-supported by Josh Hazlewood and Marcus Stoinis, who each took two wickets. Pat Cummins also contributed with a wicket, rounding off a dominant performance by the Australian bowlers.

Adam Zampa’s milestone of 100 T20I wickets is a testament to his skill and perseverance. His ability to perform consistently at the highest level has cemented his place as one of Australia’s finest bowlers in T20 cricket.
