The stage is set, and the cricketing world is buzzing with excitement as the fixtures for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 have finally been revealed. Originally scheduled to take place in Bangladesh, the tournament has now been moved to the UAE due to ongoing political unrest in the host nation. Despite the change in venue, the excitement and anticipation surrounding the tournament remain at an all-time high, especially for the Indian women’s team, who are ready to make their mark on the global stage.
India’s campaign kicks off on September 29, 2024, with a match against the West Indies, followed by a series of high-stakes encounters that could define their path to the semi-finals.
The Indian women’s team has come close to tasting World Cup glory in previous editions, notably in 2020 and 2023, but they fell short in the crucial moments. This time, however, they are determined to leave the heartbreak behind and aim for the coveted trophy. Their schedule is packed with intense clashes, including a much-anticipated showdown against Pakistan on October 6 and a final group stage match against Australia on October 13. Every match in this group promises to be a nail-biter, with the world watching as these talented athletes give it their all.
Group A is undeniably the “Group of Death,” with powerhouses like Australia and India, and strong contenders such as New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In Group B, South Africa and England stand out, alongside the 2016 champions West Indies, Bangladesh, and Scotland. The competition will be fierce, as each team will play four group matches, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals on October 17 and 18.
The Indian squad, backed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is not just looking to compete—they are looking to dominate. The 2024 edition offers them the perfect opportunity to showcase their growth, skill, and resilience on the world stage. With matches set to be played in Dubai and Sharjah, the UAE provides a familiar battleground for many of these players who have competed in various tournaments in the region.
In total, 23 matches will be played across these two iconic venues, including 10 warm-up games scheduled from September 28 to October 1. The tournament will conclude with the grand final in Dubai on October 20, a day marked in every cricket fan’s calendar as one not to miss.
