Big names who will be a part of Duleep Trophy 2024

The upcoming Duleep Trophy is set to be a spectacle of cricketing talent as some of India’s biggest names gear up to showcase their skills. The tournament, starting on September 5 in Bengaluru, will feature a mix of established stars and promising youngsters.

While senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravichandran Ashwin have been exempted due to their heavy workload, the tournament boasts an impressive lineup of other top-tier cricketers.

A Blend of Experience and Youth

Players like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj will be key attractions. Even T20 specialist Suryakumar Yadav, who has shown glimpses of his Test potential, will be in action.

The return of Rishabh Pant to competitive cricket after a horrific car accident is a major highlight. The wicketkeeper-batter will be eager to prove his fitness and regain his place in the Test team. Another wicketkeeper making a comeback is Ishan Kishan, who missed the Ranji Trophy last season.

Promising talents like Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel, who played crucial roles in India’s home series win against England, will also be looking to impress.

Team Composition and Venues

The tournament will feature four teams, with Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, and Abhimanyu Easwaran leading respectively. Each team boasts a strong combination of experience and youth, ensuring competitive matches.

Initially planned for Anantapur, one of the first-round matches has been shifted to Bengaluru to ease logistical challenges.

Focus on Youngsters

While the star power is undeniable, the Duleep Trophy also presents an opportunity for young players to showcase their talent and earn national team call-ups. Players like Anshul Khamboj, Himanshu Chauhan, and Akash Sengupta will be under the watchful eyes of selectors.

Road to Bangladesh Tests

It’s important to note that the Duleep Trophy will serve as preparation for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Players performing well in the domestic tournament could earn their spot in the national team.

With a star-studded lineup and the competitive nature of the tournament, the Duleep Trophy promises to be a thrilling affair. Cricket fans are eagerly anticipating the start of this prestigious domestic competition.
