Career-best figures earn Arshdeep Singh POTM award in the T20 World Cup

The Indian cricket team’s journey in the T20 World Cup has been nothing short of phenomenal. Their convincing win against the United States was a testament to their dominance, but one player’s performance truly stole the show – Arshdeep Singh.

Singh’s fiery spell of 4 wickets for just 9 runs earned him not only the Player of the Match award but also a place in the history books. His exceptional bowling established a new benchmark for Indian bowlers in the T20 World Cup. This isn’t just a one-time feat; Singh has been on a roll throughout the tournament, emerging as India’s leading wicket-taker with 7 scalps in just 3 games! His impressive economy rate of 6.25 further highlights his control and accuracy.

The 25-year-old left-arm pacer announced his arrival with a bang, dismissing the very first batsman with his trademark in-swinging delivery. This early wicket set the tone for the entire American innings, restricting them to a meager 110 runs. This, in itself, was a record-breaking moment for India, as they became the first team to chase down a target of over 110 runs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

Singh’s brilliance extends beyond the current tournament. He boasts an outstanding T20I record, with a jaw-dropping average of less than 20, a testament to his consistent wicket-taking abilities.  His impressive 49 wickets in just 16 first-class games further hint at his potential to excel in longer formats as well.

Suryakumar Yadav deserves a mention here too. His unbeaten knock of 50 from 49 balls propelled India to victory and placed him among the fastest fifty scorers in T20 World Cup history.

India’s emphatic win against the USA secures their place in the Super 8 stage of the tournament. With a bowling attack spearheaded by the in-form Arshdeep Singh, and a well-rounded batting line-up, India remains a strong contender for the coveted trophy. The cricketing world eagerly awaits Singh’s next spell, hoping to witness more magic from this rising star.
