The Indian Premier League (IPL) is back on track! The BCCI has just announced the full schedule for the remaining matches, keeping in mind India’s upcoming general elections. Earlier, they had only revealed the schedule for the first 21 games.
The ongoing tournament, which commenced on March 22, witnessed reigning champions Chennai Super Kings clinching victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 6 wickets. Now, the season will pick up again on April 8th with the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chennai.
There will be a total of 74 matches to be played, including the exciting playoffs which will kick off on May 21st. The grand finale will be held on May 26th at the famous Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, the same place where the season began.
The playoff drama will unfold in Ahmedabad first, with the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator matches happening on May 21st and 22nd, respectively. Then, all eyes will be on Chennai for Qualifier 2 on May 24th, leading up to the big final on May 26th.
“As in the past, the BCCI will work closely with government and security agencies, following all necessary protocols and advisories related to the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in India. Once the dates for the 18th Lok Sabha elections are announced, the Board will review and address any issues pertaining to the schedule of the first two weeks. Subsequently, the BCCI will work in tandem with local authorities to finalize the schedule for the remainder of the season, taking into account the polling dates,” stated the BCCI in a release.
Here’s a look at what some teams have planned for their remaining home games.
After playing their first two home games in Visakhapatnam, the Delhi Capitals will return to their beloved Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for their final five home matches. This will be a welcome return for their fans who will be eager to cheer on their team in familiar territory. These last five matches will be crucial for the Delhi Capitals’ playoff qualification hopes, and with the passionate home crowd behind them, they’ll be looking to put on strong performances.
The Punjab Kings will wrap up their home schedule in style, with two exciting matches at the scenic Dharamshala stadium. Their opponents are none other than the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, making for some high-voltage clashes. With their home supporters rooting for them, the Punjab Kings will be aiming to end their home campaign on a winning note and solidify their playoff chances.
The Rajasthan Royals are opting for a two-pronged approach for their remaining home games. They will be shifting their home base to Guwahati for their final two matches. This will give their fans in the northeast of India a chance to witness the IPL action live. The Royals will be hosting the Punjab Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders in Guwahati, and these matches will be critical in determining their final position on the league table. A strong showing at home will be their aim as they look to reach the playoffs.
The BCCI will continue to work with the government and security agencies throughout the tournament, especially during the election period. They’ll adjust the schedule if needed based on the official election dates.
