India Creates a List of Unwanted Records in Bengaluru Test

In a shocking turn of events, India suffered a humiliating downfall in the first Test against New Zealand at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The hosts were bowled out for a paltry 46 runs in 31.2 overs, setting a new record for their lowest total in Test cricket history.

A Day of Disappointment

The day began with high hopes for India, who had won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the batting line-up crumbled under pressure, with five of the top seven batters being dismissed for ducks. The only two batters to reach double figures were Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant, who scored 13 and 20 runs respectively.

New Zealand’s pace bowlers, led by Matt Henry and William O’Rourke, wreaked havoc on the Indian batting order. Henry picked up five wickets, including a five-wicket haul, while O’Rourke claimed four wickets. The Kiwi bowlers exploited the conditions to their advantage, generating swing and bounce that proved too much for the Indian batsmen to handle.

A Series of Unwanted Records

India’s dismal performance resulted in a series of unwanted records. The 46 all-out total was not only the lowest in their Test cricket history but also the lowest by any team in India in a Test match. It also surpassed the previous record for the lowest total in Asia, held by West Indies and Pakistan.

The Indian batting collapse also led to other records being broken. Four of the top seven batters were dismissed for ducks, and it was the second time in Test cricket history that five of the top eight batters had registered ducks.

Kohli’s Struggles Continue

Virat Kohli’s struggles continued in this Test match. He was dismissed for a duck, marking his 38th international duck. This equaled the record for the most ducks by any active cricketer, held by New Zealand’s Tim Southee.

India’s Batting Woes

The Indian batting line-up has been a major concern in recent times. Their inability to consistently score runs has been a significant factor in their defeats. The collapse in Bengaluru was a stark reminder of their batting frailties.

Looking Ahead

India will need to regroup and find a way to bounce back from this humiliating defeat. The team management will need to assess their batting options and consider making changes for the remaining Tests of the series.

The series against New Zealand is crucial for India’s World Test Championship aspirations. A defeat in this series could jeopardize their chances of qualifying for the final. India will need to improve their batting performance significantly if they want to avoid a similar fate in the future.
