Jhulan Goswami Joins Trinbago Knight Riders as Mentor for WCPL

The legendary Jhulan Goswami, India’s former star fast bowler, is taking on a new challenge. She has been named as the mentor for the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) women’s team in the upcoming Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) 2024.

Goswami, who retired from cricket in 2022 after a glorious 20-year career, is India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in women’s internationals, with a whopping 355 wickets across formats. This is her first-ever stint as a mentor in an overseas T20 league, and she’s definitely bringing a wealth of experience to the table.

Goswami will be working alongside the talented TKR Women’s team, led by the explosive West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin. The team is looking strong this year, having recently added some powerhouse players to their squad. These include Indian youngsters Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey, as well as Australian superstars Meg Lanning and Jess Jonassen. All four players are familiar faces, having competed together for the Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

The WCPL 2024 is set to be a thrilling tournament, running from August 21st to 29th. There will be three teams battling it out – TKR, the defending champions Barbados Royals, and the Guyana Amazon Warriors. All seven matches will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.

Goswami’s role as a mentor will be crucial for the TKR Women’s team. Her vast experience and knowledge of the game will be invaluable as they aim to add a second WCPL trophy to the TKR franchise’s cabinet.

Speaking about her appointment, Goswami expressed her excitement, “It’s an honour to join such a quality franchise. Knight Riders have done so well in India and around the world, and to join TKR Women at the WCPL is a pleasure. Thanks to KKR management for thinking about me as a mentor and I’m really looking forward to this tournament. The conversation about me joining TKR started with Mr. Venky Mysore CEO of Knight Riders group. As a management head, the way he takes care of everyone is amazing. I felt really honoured by the way both Shah Rukh Khan and Venky sir welcomed me and spoke to me when we met in Kolkata during the IPL”.

With the legendary Jhulan Goswami guiding them and a strong squad in place, the TKR Women’s team is definitely one to watch out for in the WCPL 2024. Get ready for some power-packed cricket and a potential championship win!
