Just days before the T20 World Cup kicks off, Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav has secured a prestigious award! He’s been named the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year for the second year in a row, becoming the first player ever to achieve this feat.
This award celebrates Yadav’s exceptional talent and his significant contributions to the T20 format. He expressed his gratitude on social media, highlighting his impressive 2023 stats: a whopping 733 runs scored in just 17 innings, with a mind-blowing strike rate of 155.95!
Yadav’s dominance in T20 cricket is undeniable. His consistency and skill were on full display in 2023, averaging a remarkable 48.86 runs per innings. This recognition further solidifies his position as a vital member of the Indian team.
Despite facing challenges during the recent IPL season, including injuries that kept him out initially, Yadav showcased his fighting spirit. He bounced back with a dazzling performance, scoring 345 runs at a blistering strike rate of 167.47, even smashing a remarkable unbeaten century off just 51 balls!
Yadav’s leadership qualities were also evident when he captained India in a South African T20I series in December. However, an ankle injury disrupted his momentum, forcing him to miss some matches, including the initial stages of the IPL season.
While Yadav receives the spotlight, it’s important to acknowledge other Indian players who were recognized by the ICC. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was given the ICC Test Team of the Year cap. Skipper Rohit Sharma along with Shubman Gill, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj received the ICC ODI Team of the Year caps and the left-arm spinner Arshdeep Singh got the ICC T20I Team of the Year cap.
These awards are a testament to the overall strength of the Indian cricket team. With the T20 World Cup just around the corner, Yadav’s red-hot form and the collective talent of the Indian squad make them a strong contender for the coveted trophy.
In a significant development for women's cricket, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced the launch
The Hundred, a unique cricket competition in England, saw three Indian players participate this year. While one of them emerged as a champion, the other two-faced challenges in the tournament.
