Indians at the Women’s Hundred

The Hundred, a unique cricket competition in England, saw three Indian players participate this year. While one of them emerged as a champion, the other two-faced challenges in the tournament.

Deepti Sharma: The Rising Star

Deepti Sharma, an all-rounder known for her bowling prowess, was the standout Indian player in the Hundred. Playing for the London Spirit, she showcased her batting skills and contributed significantly to their success. Her ability to finish innings and her bowling prowess proved invaluable to the team.

Deepti played a crucial role in the Spirit’s victory in the final, where she scored an unbeaten 16 runs and took a crucial wicket. Her performance throughout the tournament solidified her reputation as a rising star in women’s cricket.

Smriti Mandhana: A Disappointing Campaign

Smriti Mandhana, one of India’s most prominent batters, had a disappointing campaign in the Hundred. Playing for the Southern Brave, she struggled to find her rhythm and failed to make a significant impact. Despite her previous success in the tournament, Mandhana couldn’t replicate her form this year.

Richa Ghosh: Struggles in the Middle Order

Richa Ghosh, a young and promising wicket-keeper batter, also participated in the Hundred for the Birmingham Phoenix. However, she faced challenges in the middle order and struggled to contribute consistently. Despite her talent, Ghosh couldn’t make a significant impact on the team’s performance.

Others

Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur, who had previously played in the Hundred, did not participate in this year’s edition. Their absence was notable, as they have been key players for their respective teams in the past.

The Hundred provided an opportunity for Indian players to showcase their skills in a unique format. While Deepti Sharma had a successful tournament, Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh faced challenges. The competition offered valuable experience for these players, and they can learn from their experiences to improve their game.
