India, Australia, South Africa, and the host nation, West Indies, were the first to secure their berths in the Super 8. They’ve been joined by Afghanistan, who emerged victorious against Papua New Guinea, solidifying Group 1 alongside India and Australia.

The remaining three spots remain up for grabs, with several teams vying for a place at the table. Notably, pre-tournament favorites New Zealand and Sri Lanka were ousted in their respective groups, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the T20 format.

The Super 8 stage will see a return to the familiar round-robin format, with two groups of four teams each.  The top two teams from each group will then progress to the semifinals, setting the stage for a thrilling climax.

Here’s a closer look at the Super 8 groups and the upcoming fixtures:

Group 1: This group boasts a strong contingent with India, Australia, and Afghanistan already confirmed. The fourth spot will be filled by the winner of Group D, which is still wide open. This group promises to be a battle of titans, with all teams capable of mounting a serious challenge.

Group 2: West Indies, the home team, will be looking to capitalize on their home advantage in Group 2. They’ll be joined by South Africa, who have a consistent record in the tournament. The remaining two spots will be filled by the winners of Group A and Group B.  With Pakistan and England still in contention, this group promises a display of high-octane cricket.

The race for the remaining spots in the Super 8 is still ongoing, with several teams vying for qualification. Pakistan and England will be looking to secure wins in their final group matches to ensure their passage.

The Super 8 stage kicks off on June 19th and runs until June 24th.  With a mix of established powerhouses and emerging talents, the stage is set for some enthralling cricket.
